I would get the demo of BlueCat Axiom, the sound fades out-and-in periodically, run through the presets, there is a 'Legends' submenu with a famous variety. It's a great ampsim/effects host.
You'd also want the U-he Repro software synth and a keyboard with expression pedal to handle playing some moving plucked-synth-bass sounds, and also some of the synth-brass. The U-he compressor plugin 'Presswerk' is great with vocals and drums.
